First: Remember when I did this Fingerless Gloves DIY ()? While I really liked the gloves I thought for sure I would place them in my drawer and maybe bring them out in the winter for a ski trip. Imagine my surprise as I was flipping through Nordstrom's August catalog, which somehow was in my "throw away" pile of magazines. So here is my inspired (and WAY cheaper) version. Thanks Nordie's for the inspiration!!
*Picture taken by me from Nordstrom August 2012 catalog with my iPhone
Second: Some of you may have noticed that I've been a bit MIA (thanks for checking on me Roni!!)
Without waxing poetic I have decided to just come clean cuz eventually it will all come out anyway. A few weeks ago I had minor surgery to remove a small sebaceous cyst from my scalp that was infected. (fyi: sebaceous cysts are benign). Still, it kinda rocked my world (the wrong way) and I fell into a semi depression/insomnia state that was so hard to shake. After a couple of days, wanting to feel better, I went out make-up shopping, bought a new foundation (super-expensive, like if I spent more $$ it would equate to me feeling much better) and broke out horrendously, which only ended up making me feel worse and making my insomnia worse. As days went by I didn't post I seriously worried about hurting my fellow blogger friend's feelings that I couldn't respond back in a timely manner, that I didn't visit their blogs, that my comments lacked substance, etc....
So I decided to turn the tables around and ask all of you:
1. Faced with insomnia what home remedies do you suggest?
2. How do you deal with blogging guilt?, responding to comments?, visiting hundreds of blogs?
Thank you in advance for any words of wisdom, advice, etc...
P.S. As you can see by the pics I am bouncing back (...slowly...)
How fun is this picture?
I have always wanted to take a picture like this..... PEAACEE!

Such a fun look - love that clutch!

ReplyDeletefun pics! love your inspiration, great outfit! xxx
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what happened to you! First of all, I am glad you are ok, and making a recovery. Secondly, make-up that caused you to break-out? I am so sorry to hear about that, I've experienced that as well and that's never fun. Just take your time...and you look amazing as always, and these are such fun shots! It's hard Dana when you are dealing with blogging guilt. I get a lot of comments on my blog and try my best to respond to each one, but honestly once the post has gone live for a few days, I may not have time to go back. I try my best, I've lost readers because I didn't respond, but you can't make everyone happy. I'm still trying to figure out that balance.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! I love the black and white, so classic.

Oh no Dana, sorry to hear you've been feeling so down in the dumps. Happy to see you back though, I was getting worried! It seems to me like insomnia usually goes away when you don't have a lot of things weighing on your mind. I get the blogger guilt too, but it's impossible to respond to every single comment and read every single blog that you're following. You're only human!
ReplyDeletePS Love how the gloves makes it look like cut outs in the top!

For insomnia I really don't have a remedy other than a hot bath and a relaxing massage.
ReplyDeleteRegarding blog guilt you shouldn't be worried, sincere followers are still here...
I'm glad you're ok.

This is such a cool look! Digging the simple but always chic black and white palette. As for insomnia, I recommend not looking at your phone or computer at least one to two hours before bedtime, because the lights from either screens affects your synapses and causes you to stay awake. Also, I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better and well on the road to recovery! Take care!

Hi my dear, I am so sorry to hear you were not feeling well and had a procedure done, wish I knew earlier so i could've wished you well. I am glad to know you are feeling better, you are a ray of sunshine and please done let anything get you down :)
ReplyDeleteI often suffer from insomnia, coffee makes it worse, try herbal Rescue Remedy drops, they natural and safe. You look so chic in this black and white look, love the gloves, you are a future trend spotter!! I need to use mine. Thanks for your comment, (haha the donkey thing made me laugh) no need to feel guilty at all about not responding to comments, life happens!
I am so sorry to hear about your surgery! I am happy that you are back to blogging now! I know it an be hard getting back at it after being away. I have had many surgeries over the years from a motorcycle accident. I dont let that hold me back. I agree it is hard to visit so many blog and comment. You look great here! You did an amazing job with the gloves!

First of all, you poor thing!! Thank God everything was alright in the end and not the worst that it could have been. On your scalp?! Ugh, that just gave me goosebumps; how scary :( Again, I'm so so so so glad you're alright, even with the dealing with the aftermath of insomnia. Insomnia sucks. I've been there for days at a time and thankfully not more than that. I have friends who have been dealing with it for months! Crazy. I'm sure you've tried it, but just in case you haven't, have you tried just taking a melatonin pill and a bath right after; that automatically puts me to bed when I'm having trouble sleeping. Sometimes just the melatonin knocks me on my ass right away! I hope you find something that works for you, hun. ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you for the little shout out. Little things like that make me happy and feel super special! I try to be the best blog friend to those blog friends that I've made a true connection with. I'm very happy to call you one of those people and I'm glad that the feeling is mutual :D
I love your self proclaimed "copy cat files" series on your blog! It's one of the most unique things. I actually thought about you the other day when I saw this amazing picture of Kelly Osbourne in an equally amazing outfit that I just wanted to "copy-cat" :) So I saved it to my comp for the day I find all the pieces in my closet to make my first copy cat files post to come true! haha
That brings me to these pictures and this particular outfit - It's a perfect match! And how bout those gloves getting put to use so quickly!?! Yeahh! You look GREAT and there are no indications that you had a little skin problem (I HATE when that happens to me!). Really, you're totally rockin' a Chanel-model vibe! :D
That sideways picture is AWESOME! Yes, yes, yes, fun indeed!
As for the guilt on not blogging/commenting/reading blog friends' blogs, I can so understand that guilt. I've called it the blog guilt, too and most all my friends relate. I guess it is a blogger thing. Only we all agree that there's no reason to feel guilty. It's like why do we let it get to us when we miss a few days or a week (or even a month like I did this summer!)? For me, I just worry that they think I've abandoned them or don't care about my blog and I 100% DO. I love my blog, and I love the friends that I've made through it, along with their blogs. But life happens and sometimes life is gonna take us away from the internet for a while. The great thing is they'll still be there when you come back and posts can be read however long after the fact, IF you want to! And your friends will understand, just like your real life friends do when things happen. :) Seriously, don't kick yourself over this.
Have a great rest of your week, darlin' ♥
Sorry to know you were not so well, am glad you are getting better...you look wonderful!! Keep getting better xx

Darling, I am so sorry to hear this! I have been MIA too (been under the weather, still recovering actually, but no more fever, yay!)But good news is you are recovering and it was not serious. I can understand being depressed, I injured my back (STILL recovering after almost 10 months!) and I struggled to make peace with the fact that my lifestyle might not be the same again - no gym, no bootcamp, active lifestyle and worst I put on weight coz I was not working out like normal but now, I couldn't be bothered anymore, at least I am breathing and that's important. Insomia? Tell me about it, share with me if any of our friends' advice works. As for blogging guilt, I try to answer to all that drop in but sometimes I am quite behind but then again not much since my blog is relatively small.. a blessing? I don't know, whatever LOL! Looking forward for the trip!
